Event Description:
Join the Council for Quality Growth's South Metro Advisory Committee Meeting with East Point Mayor Jannquell Peters.
Jannquell Peters was elected as the 33rd mayor of the City of East Point in December 2013.  She welcomes visitors to experience East Point; a community that has a little bit of everything for just about everyone and is excited to help move the community forward toward a more prosperous future.  As an entrepreneur and small business owner, Jannquell is a champion of smart growth and believes East Point will become a beacon of opportunity for new and innovative business endeavors.

Before taking public office, Jannquell held a variety of positions working with the underrepresented, providing a voice to those without.  She served as a public defender and later as a child advocate where she represented abused and neglected children in foster care.  She has also worked as a Deputy Court Administrator for Juvenile Court and is currently in private practice.    During the summer of 2011, Jannquell opened IndoCycle Studio, the first stand-alone indoor cycling studio in the metro-Atlanta area.

Since being elected to office, Jannquell has taken a particular interest in the Municipal Electric Association of Georgia, the public power consortium in which East Point is a participant.  She also serves on the city’s budget, finance and human resources committees along with the city’s Building Industrial and Development Authority.  Beyond policy goals for East Point, Jannquell believes creating productive partnerships will only help in rebranding the city and ensuring economic success.  To that end, Jannquell serves on the Atlanta Aerotropolis Alliance and participates in the McPherson Local Redevelopment Authority.

"East Point is positioned to be the next great success story in the Atlanta region and throughout Georgia.  East Point combines the hominess of small town America with the amenities of an international city,” she says.

As mayor, Jannquell serves as parliamentarian and presides over all city council meetings.  She votes in the case of a tie vote by the eight council members.  She has veto power and makes various city-wide board and commission appointments including the East Point Housing Authority.

Jannquell is a native of New Orleans, where her parents, two sisters, other family and many childhood friends still reside.  She is a graduate of Metairie Park Country Day School and obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Northern Michigan University with a major in political science and dual minors in French and Writing.  Jannquell earned her law degree from Southern University Law Center.  She resides in Egan Park and attends St. John’s Church.  Jannquell is the owner of IndoCycle Studio in East Point and when she is not teaching a spin class, she enjoys playing golf, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
