Join the Council for Quality Growth's Atlanta Advisory Meeting with Atlanta City Councilman Andre Dickens

Councilmember Andre Dickens was elected citywide to the Atlanta City Council Post 3 at Large in November 2013 and was the only Councilmember who was re-elected unopposed in November 2017.  Currently, Dickens is the Council’s President Pro Tem and is the chair of the Transportation Committee.  He also serves on Committee on Council, Public Safety & Legal Administration Committee, and Finance/Executive Committee. In his first term, Dickens served as chair for the Public Safety & Legal Administration and Community Development & Human Services Committees and has served on the Code Enforcement & Budget Commissions as well as the Boards of the Atlanta Beltline, Invest Atlanta, and the Center for Civil and Human Rights.

Dickens is a fifth generation Atlantan and proud product of the Atlanta Public School System where he graduated from Benjamin E Mays High School. Dickens earned his Bachelor’s of Chemical Engineering from Georgia Tech. He earned his Master’s of Public Administration in Economic Development at Georgia State University’s Andrew Young School of Policy Studies.

In 1999, Dickens began working for DSM Engineering Plastics and in 2002 he co-founded City Living Home Furnishings in Atlanta, a family-operated business that grew into a multi-million dollar business with two locations.  Dickens oversaw City Living’s operations, finances, and marketing efforts until 2010.

Dickens returned to his alma mater to serve as the Assistant Director of Outreach Initiatives for Georgia Tech’s Office of Institute Diversity where he managed the minority undergraduate transition program & graduate school recruitment program.  These programs help hundreds of minority undergraduate and graduate students each year successfully manage the recruitment, transition and retention through college life at Georgia Tech.

In 2016, Dickens became the Georgia Community Leader for TechBridge, a nonprofit that drives community impact by bringing affordable technology and business expertise to other nonprofits. Andre is charged with building relationships and appropriating resources for Georgia. TechBridge’s mission to ultimately reduce poverty through technology solutions aligns perfectly with Andre’s personal mission and attracted him to this role that he enjoys.

In his tenure as Post 3 At-Large Councilmember, Dickens has become a vocal and legislative activist in promoting quality educational opportunities for Atlanta Public School students, ensuring that equity and affordability in housing is a significant component of Atlanta’s future economic growth, improving transportation across the city, improving permitting processes, and enabling seniors to live comfortably in the city.

Dickens is an alumnus of Leadership Atlanta, Diversity Leadership Atlanta, and United Way VIP. He also is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc. among numerous other organizations and affiliations. In his spare time, Dickens enjoys spending time with his family & friends, serving as Deacon at New Horizon Baptist Church, and listening to live music.
