Forsyth County Commissioner and Chairman Alfred John was first elected to serve the 2021–2024 term and was re-elected to a second term which began in January 2025. He represents District 2 in South Forsyth and has been elected by his peers to serve as Chairman of the Board for five consecutive years.
Before joining the Board of Commissioners, Chairman John spent four years on the Forsyth County Zoning Board of Appeals (2017–2020), where he was selected by fellow members to serve as Chairman in 2020. He also serves on the Board of the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), working alongside 10 county chairs and 11 city mayors from across the metro Atlanta region. In 2024, he was elected by his fellow ARC members to the Executive Committee as Board Secretary and Chair of the Ethics Committee.
Chairman John’s professional background is in information systems, project management, and technology implementation. He has consulted for numerous organizations to improve operational efficiency and most recently worked as a Senior Manager for an Atlanta-based firm managing HR operations, payroll and technology. He brings this private-sector experience to his role in public service.
In office, Chairman John has focused on reducing residential density, strengthening Forsyth County’s commercial base, and enhancing infrastructure and road capacity, while meeting the needs of residents with a strong emphasis on public safety and long-term planning.
Chairman John has been a Forsyth County resident for more than 23 years. He and his wife have been married for 30 years and have two adult children.
