Commissioner Rader’s legislative agenda has focused on governmental integrity and quality of life.  He is the author of the DeKalb County Internal Auditor Code, and has sponsored budget increases for the DeKalb Board of Ethics for two years running.  In support of quality of life, Rader sponsored legislation regulating Late Night Establishments and requiring Interior Housing Code Compliance for multifamily rental housing.  Rader is an advocate for seniors, advancing Life Long Communities and championing a new 15,000 SF Senior Center in Mason Mill Park, which opened in 2015.  He has been instrumental in entitling award winning developments in his Commission District.

Commissioner Rader serves on the Board of Managers of the Association, County Commissioners of Georgia and on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Counties.  He is a past member of the Georgia Planning Association Board of Directors, representing planning officials.

Mr. Rader’s work has been widely recognized.  In 2014, he was honored by Common Cause with a Democracy Award for his work to improve governmental transparency.   In 2013, he received ACCG’s Legislative Advocacy Award.  Prior awards include Citizen Action’s Citizen of the Year, and a German Marshall Fund of the United States Fellowship.

In private life, Rader is a City Planner, and has held staff positions in local government, served as Vice President for Transportation Programs at the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the inaugural Planning Director of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority, Executive Director of the Regional Business Coalition, and Vice President of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association.  In 2014, he was elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners, an honor conferred on less than one percent of his profession. Currently, he is a Principal with Commons Civic Planning and Development, a non-profit devoted to enhancing the public realm and expanding the sharing economy.

Commissioner Rader is a graduate of the University of Georgia Franklin College and Georgia Tech’s City and Regional Planning graduate program.  Jeff is married to Carolyn Henry Rader.  They live in unincorporated Druid Hills and have three children, educated in the public schools of DeKalb County and the University System of Georgia.
